WhatsApp has announced three new upgrades aimed at group chats: a new **@all mention**, **smarter polls** and a quick way to **create a similar group**. The company says they will reach all users gradually over the coming weeks, so you may not see every option on your phone yet. Here is what each feature does and how it can help if you are in busy groups.
## 1. The @all mention
Until now, getting everyone's attention in a group meant tagging members one by one or hoping they would scroll up. The new @all mention sends a notification to every member with a single tag. It is meant for urgent or time-sensitive messages such as deadlines, last-minute changes to plans, or a school or workplace closure.
There is an important limit. In groups with **more than 32 members, only admins can use @all**, which should stop it from turning into spam in large communities. In smaller groups, any member can use it.
## 2. Smarter polls
Polls are getting more control and more privacy:
- **End time:** you can set a deadline. When it arrives, voting locks automatically and nobody can add a new answer.
- **Hidden voter names:** you can choose to hide who voted for what, which helps when people may not want to share their choice openly.
- **Fixing mistakes:** reports also say you will be able to correct a typing mistake or clarify a question without deleting the whole poll and starting again.
This is useful for deciding meeting times, choosing a restaurant, or collecting quick opinions from a study, work or community group.
## 3. Create a similar group
The third feature lets you start a new group from the members of an existing one with a single tap, instead of adding people one at a time. It is handy for planning a surprise, organising one part of a bigger event, or moving a specific topic out of the main chat so that the original group stays focused.
## Other group updates earlier in 2026
These upgrades follow earlier 2026 changes for group chats, including member **name tags** (a nickname you can set for each group, such as a role or short description) and **custom event reminders**. Together they make larger groups easier to manage.
## What this means if you run or join a WhatsApp group
- **Admins** now have a simple way to send important announcements without relying on pinned messages.
- **Large groups** are protected from @all misuse because only admins can use it above 32 members.
- **Members** should keep notifications on for groups where the admin posts official updates, and mute groups that are only chat.
- **Everyone** should still be careful: a new feature does not make an unknown group safe. Read our guide on [how to spot a spam or scam WhatsApp group before joining](/blog/how-to-spot-spam-scam-whatsapp-group-before-joining).
## Will I get the features right now?
Not necessarily. WhatsApp rolls features out in stages, and availability can differ by phone, country and app version. Update WhatsApp from the Play Store or App Store and check again after a few days. If an option is missing, it has most likely not reached your account yet.
## Find active groups to try them with
If you want to use these tools in a real community, browse the [WhatsApp group categories](/categories) on Groupifyy, such as jobs, study, technology and business. Each listing has an overview, rules and a join button. If you manage a group of your own, you can submit it from the [Add Group](/add-group) page.
